How do I get cheap healthcare?
The real answer
The No Surprises Act reaches job-based plans, individual plans and federal-employee plans, for plan years from January 1, 2022; Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE have rules of their own. The protection covers an emergency at any ER, an out-of-network clinician at an in-network hospital or surgery center, and air ambulance.

- Your plan already covers the emergency, and the hospital is almost always in network. The doctor who sees you is your pick: ask for the out-of-network one, and the law prices your share on a ceiling. Sign nothing.

The fine print, in full
Standard Healthcare is a parody. No real company is depicted. Job-based, individual and federal-employee plans, for plan years from January 1, 2022; Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE have rules of their own. Air ambulance is covered; ground ambulance is outside the federal law. The No Surprises Act: in an emergency, at any ER, a hospital's or a freestanding one, in your network or not, your share is your in-network share, figured on the recognized amount, not on the doctor's bill (45 CFR 149.110). It counts toward your in-network deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. The doctor may not bill you the rest (45 CFR 149.410). After you are stabilized the protection runs through the visit until you sign a valid consent, and you don't have to.
