Frequently asked questions
We are glad you asked.
Can I see the price before I buy?
Great question! Prices are not shown at the register; ask, and the cashier may tell you, or wait 6 weeks or longer for your Explanation of Groceries.
Can I return an item?
Items are consumed at checkout and cannot be returned.
Why two checkout lanes?
Please use the participating lane. The other cashier bills separately. The lanes look the same, so if you find yourself in the wrong one, a second bill will arrive from a cashier you never met.
Why does the same bread cost different amounts?
Every store negotiated every item with every plan, in private, for a year. The price depends on your plan, your store and your branch.
What is a deductible?
The amount you spend on groceries yourself before the plan starts paying for any of them. It starts over every year.
Can I switch plans if I do not like mine?
Open enrollment runs two weeks a year. Your employer picked your plan last fall.
I drove to a store in my brochure and it was not there.
Some stores are listed in your brochure only. This is by design. We regret the drive.
Can I ask the competitor what their bread costs?
Certainly. They will tell you their cover charge and the amount you must spend before their plan starts paying. They will not tell you about the bread.
Why is the shelf price so much higher than what anyone pays?
It is the shelf price. Nobody pays it. It makes the discount look generous.
What is the benchmark we calculated?
A number we calculated. Your share is computed against it. You may ask how we calculated it, and we will reply in six weeks.
Do I need permission to buy milk?
For some items, yes. See Prior authorization for milk. Decisions take about six weeks, by which time you will have bought milk, which is not covered.
What if I disagree with a bill?
Both sides submit a number, and a neutral third party chooses one. They will be shown the benchmark we calculated.
What is a TPA?
TPA - Third Party Advertiser. We are not affiliated. They advertise our prices. We contract the prices. The third party advertises and connects with you. We are not related.
