How much does a federal QPA audit check?

The real answer

In CMS’s published audit of the School Employees Retirement System of Ohio (Audit Report 2023-QPA-11, April 9, 2026), the scope was air ambulance only, because Ohio’s own law covers the rest: a population of 6 claims, all 6 sampled, and a data set of 8 QPAs built from 36 contracted rates, in a 29-page report. Two of the six claims had never been processed under the No Surprises Act, and every page is stamped “information not releasable to the public unless authorized by law” (the report). CMS’s first published audit, of Aetna Health Inc. in Texas (May 29, 2024), sampled 1 air-ambulance claim and found its QPAs computed from paid claims instead of contracted rates (the report).
